What to Do Immediately After a Death at an Orange City, FL Funeral Home

Several things need to happen immediately after a death. First, a medical professional has to confirm the death and then fill out a Pronouncement of Death form. Next, arrangements need to be made to transport the body to an Orange City, FL funeral home. Third, close family and friends should be notified.

Then, if the deceased person has dependents and pets, you need to make sure that adequate care arrangements are made for them. Children and pets are profoundly affected by the death of a parent or of an owner, so it is important make sure they are in a supportive, comforting, and loving environment as they adjust to the reality of someone they love deeply being gone.

If the deceased was employed, you will need to notify the employer of the death and ask for information about any benefits or pay that may be owed to the deceased. You should also find out if the deceased had life insurance through the company and, if so, get that information as well. Finally, you need to make sure that the deceased person’s primary care physician knows about the death.

This sounds like a lot of things to do all at once, but by coordinating immediately after a death with an Orange City, FL funeral home, you can create a checklist of these items and designate which immediate family members are responsible for which items. This will make the process faster and easier.

If a person who is in home hospice care dies, your first notification will be to the home hospice nurse. They will come to your home or the deceased’s home and complete the Pronouncement of Death. The hospice nurse will also contact the funeral home you designate to transport the body, and the hospice nurse will clean and dress the body before the funeral home staff gets there.

Hospice provides final care kits and all medications for the hospice-admission illness, so after the funeral home staff takes the body to transport it to the funeral home, the hospice nurse will work with the primary caregiver or a family member to properly dispose of all medication that hospice provided.

If someone dies in a hospital, the medical professionals there will fill out the Pronouncement of Death and will contact the funeral home you want to transport the body. The hospital staff will clean and dress the body for transport, and they will take care of all the details of transferring the body from the hospital to the funeral home.
